McCrimmon gets some good news

Thompson Valley High School senior wrestler Cameron McCrimmon was cleared to wrestled again on Thursday, just one day before the start of regionals. The Eagles head to Englewood High School for the Class 4A Region 2 tournament, which begins at 5 p.m. Friday.

McCrimmon was diagnosed with mononucleosis on Feb. 2 and was told he would miss the rest of the season. Ranked third in the state at 182 pounds, it was the last news the senior wanted to hear. But with constant bed rest and care, doctor’s said his spleen (which enlarges with mono and is susceptible to rupturing) had gone back to normal, so McCrimmon worked out for the first time Feb. 9.

It is a big boost for an Eagles team that has hopes of chasing down a team title at state next weekend. They had already lost Joe Chavez to a knee injury.

“It’s about time we got some good news,” TVHS coach Dave Juergensen said.
